Holiday Hustle, Healthy You: 5 Simple Secrets to Stay on Track Without Missing the Fun!

The holiday season is full of joy, celebrations, and—let's be honest—a lot of cookies, wine, cocktails and temptations. The holiday season is also full of obstacles to staying on track with your health and fitness goals. Between endless parties, tempting treats, and packed schedules, it’s easy to feel like your goals take a backseat.

The good news? You don’t have to wait for January to get back on track. In fact, I 10:10 recommend doing your best to find and create that balance at this time of the year. I am here to share a few simple strategies, you can enjoy the season while maintaining balance.

Here are practical tips to help you stay consistent with your health goals during the holidays:

1. Prioritize Quick and Effective Workouts

Time is tight during the holidays, so focus on workouts that pack a punch in a short amount of time.

  • High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): A 20-30 minute session can boost your metabolism and provide a full-body workout. Check out my YOUTUBE workouts here!

  • Mini Workouts: Break exercise into smaller chunks—10 minutes in the morning and 10 in the evening.

  • Bodyweight Exercises: Push-ups, squats, and planks can be done anywhere, even during holiday travel. Want a simple body weight exercise you can do for 10, 20 or 30 minutes?

    1. 10 exercises, 45 seconds on/15 second transitions

  1. Walking Lunges

  2. Plank Shoulder Taps

  3. Broad Jump + Shuffle Back

  4. Bicycles

  5. Push Up + Side Planks

  6. Lateral Shuffles

  7. Single Leg Deadlifts (alternating)

  8. SuperHero

  9. Bridge

  10. Burpees Complete once for 10 minutes, twice for 20, thrice for 30!

If you can’t stick to your full routine, remember that some movement is always better than none.

2. Make Healthy Eating Simple (and Festive!)

You don’t need to avoid holiday treats entirely; instead, focus on balance.

  • Plan Ahead: Eat a healthy, protein-rich snack before attending parties to avoid overindulging.

  • Use the Plate Method: Fill half your plate with vegetables, a quarter with lean protein, and the rest with holiday favorites.

  • Limit Liquid Calories: Be mindful of sugary drinks and cocktails. Alternate with water or festive mocktails.

By enjoying treats in moderation and keeping a focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods, you can celebrate without derailing your progress.

3. Stay Active During Travel

Whether you're visiting family or going on vacation, keep moving!

  • Pack Travel-Friendly Equipment: Resistance bands or a jump rope are lightweight and versatile.

  • Explore Your Destination: Go for walks, hikes, or bike rides to stay active and create holiday memories.

  • Use Bodyweight Routines: No gym? No problem! Create a simple circuit of lunges, push-ups, and core exercises.

Consistency is key, even if your workouts look different while you're away.

4. Keep a Balanced Mindset

Mindset is everything during the holidays. Avoid falling into an "all-or-nothing" trap.

  • Set Realistic Goals: Focus on maintaining your progress rather than making dramatic changes.

  • Practice Mindful Eating: Slow down, savor your food, and pay attention to hunger and fullness cues.

  • Forgive Slip-Ups: One indulgent meal won’t undo your progress. Get back on track with your next choice.

Remember, the goal is to enjoy the season without guilt while making choices that align with your long-term goals.

5. Create Accountability and Support

Accountability can make a big difference when life gets busy.

  • Find a Workout Buddy: Schedule walks or workouts with a friend to stay consistent.

  • Track Your Progress: Use a fitness journal or app to log your workouts and meals.

  • Set Boundaries: Politely decline activities or commitments that don't align with your priorities.

Surrounding yourself with a supportive community can keep you motivated and on track.

Progress Over Perfection

The holidays are a time for connection and joy, not stress and guilt. Focus on what you can do, rather than what you can’t. By staying active, enjoying food mindfully, and maintaining a balanced mindset, you’ll end the season feeling empowered—and ready to tackle your New Year goals.
